Atlas / Pellizzari Electric was hired to design and build a shade structure photovoltaic (PV) system for a Power Integrations in San Jose, CA. This project required extensive planning and coordination to meet the customer’s expectations. The product consisted of multiple steel shade parking structures, equipped with solar panels connected to the main electrical system, and interconnected with PG&E. This installation resulted in a net zero energy consumption, allowing the owner to produce as much energy as they were consuming.
Project Highlights
- The PV installation included more than 2,500 panels covering a 45,000 square foot parking lot.
- At the time of installation, the 600kW System was among the 10 largest solar facilities in Silicon Valley.
- One of Power Integrations’ two buildings and all parking lot lights will be fully powered off the new PV System. The building houses more than 100 employees and the company’s chip-testing operation.
- The project should cut more than 10,000 tons of greenhouse-gas emissions over the next 25 years, while providing shade for approximately 280 employee cars.
